Friar Anđeo Kraljević was born on 28.12.1807 in village Čerigaj and he was, on his baptism, given name Ivan. Around 1820. he goes to the convent in Kreševo to study for friar and on March 9 1823 he enters in Franciscan order. A year later he makes eternal vows and goes to study in Hungary where he, in Gyongaosu and Vacu, finishes philosophy and theology. He was ordained for the priest on 06.01.1831. He comes back in Province and fulfils a function of spiritual assistant in Posušje, Čerigaj, Dolac near Travnik. He was appointed as convent vicar in Kreševo, and after that as abbot. In 1844 he guides Herzegovinan friars in aim of building the convent in Herzegovina. From Kreševo he goes to Široki Brijeg on 19.05.1844, where he becomes the first abbot who lived under the oak tree and waiting the Turkish allowance for building the convent (he spoke Turkish language). After that, he was pastor in Veljaci from 1846. On the day 09.11. 1852 he was chosen for the first custod of Herzegovinan custody. After that he was secretary, pastor, again custod, and The Holy See appointed him as the bishop in Herzegovina on 25.03.1865 in Zadar. On 27.07.1879 he dies from the cardiac arrest during the Holy Confirmation in Konjic where he is buried in the Church.
He deeply worked on church constitution in Herzegovina, he established the printing house, he brought Sisters of Charity to teach children, he built churches, pastors and convents. He wrote and print a lot: Schematismus missionariae neoerectae Custodiae Hercegoviensis fratrum minorum regularis observantiae (Dubrovnik, 1853.); Razgovor duhovni s' pripravom osobito za uprav ispoviditi se i dostojno pričestiti se (Rim, 1860.); Grammatica Latino-Illyrica (Rim, 1863.); Govorenja za svetkovine (Rim, 1870.); Ispovidnik kod bolesnika (Zadar, 1870.); Istomačenja stvarih potribitih nauka karstjanskoga (Rim, 1867.); Zabava duhovna za dicu školsku (Mostar, 1874.); Put križa ili Žalosno putovanje Gospodina Našeg Isukrsta iz dvora Pilatova do Kalvarie (Rim, 1867.).                    (Fra Ante Marić)

Croatian post Ltd. Mostar has issued a commemorative postage stamp and a first day cover. The Portrait of friar Anđeo Kraljević is the work of friar Mirko Ćosić (1903. – 1967.), the first academic artist in West Herzegovina, the stamp was designed by Marin Musa.
