A resolution was passed in 2004 at the Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) in which 192 member countries participated, that declared June 14th as World Blood Donor Day.

Due to society’s low awareness, there still exists a fear of donating blood. Because of this, the public must be better informed with information about blood donations in order to recognize the importance of this humane act. All facts must be clarified in order to increase the number of donors of this generous act. A well organized donating system should be an essential part of the national health strategy of every country.

Blood cannot be produced in an artificial manner, and the only source of this cure is man. During blood donations, a certain amount of blood is drawn necessary for patients’ treatments. The motives to donote blood are most frequently of humane nature because it is a special and indescribable feeling knowing that your blood could save someone's life. Blood donors donate blood, Plasma, or blood cells freely, without compensation because: „He who saves one life, has saved all of humanity!“
